Australia Day Beach Fun Run & Walk – 26/1/2020

Conducted on Shoalhaven Heads Beach

Due to the extremely unpleasant weather, heat wise and strong north easterly winds we wish to thank the competitors who braved the conditions and participated in the Australia Day evening FunRun.

Special congratulations to our winners.  Harry Parker took out line honours for the 2k in a time of 10.53. Eloise Parker finished 4th to be the first female home, clocking 12.47.  Good family competition!

Top competitor in the weekly Huskisson Park Run, Bradley Sawyers was a very clear winner in the 5k distance.  Bradley certainly set a new record for the 5k by finishing in a ‘top time’ for the conditions of 20.15. Winning time for 2019 was 23.03. Congratulations Brad.

Marann Keady was the first female home in the blustery conditions. Well done, everyone!

Special thanks to the Shoalhaven Heads Surf Lifesaving Club for support in staging the event and to Victory Runners members and friends who assisted with turn around points, timing and recording.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES – #4

Fortunately, weather was in our favour for Friday Fun activities and Saturday Sunrise run / walk

Eleven year old Ruby French set the bar high in completing 11 circuits of the obstacle course. Well done Ruby.  Young Owen Harlor in his first Friday Fun activity managed to complete 5 circuits and improved with each one. Older brother Joel easily managed 8 circuits and finished the evening with a quick 2k run.

The lovely cool temperature on Saturday morning was very much appreciated by the runners and walkers as they made their way along the banks of the Shoalhaven River. Cristine Suffolk led the 4k runners home with Razz Morgan second and clocking a great improvement time wise. Not to be outdone by Razz, Kirsten Pichler also set herself a new PB.  Our 2k runners and 3k walkers also showed good improvement.

Congratulations to Jon Schol on his amazing effort as a solo competitor in the Triple Triathlon in Canberra on Sunday 17th November. Jon won his age category, 50 + yrs and finished the event in 14:15:05 hours which gave him the honour of Second overall, against competitors nearly half his age!  We salute you Jon, this is an outstanding display of your physical and mental strength, talent and endurance. Victory Runners are very proud of your victory in achieving this excellent result.

Hope all are inspired by Jon’s accomplishment and are looking forward to Saturdays Sunrise run / walk on 30th. of November. This will be at a new venue in Callala Bay.  Start / finish area at the Boat Ramp in Sheaffe Street.  New and interested runners, joggers or walkers very welcome. Start 8am, distances from 2k through to 4k. The course doesn’t involve any running on roads so is very safe. I have also been advised that a coffee shop is available!!

Last chance to publish our November quote:  Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.”

Summer Activities – #3

Weather conditions again played havoc, this time with Friday’s Fun activity. After attempting to set out obstacles on the course, we finally had to give up and let the westerly winds at Willandra take over.  Postponed the activity to Friday 22nd November. Hopefully weather will be in our favour.

However Saturday Sunrise activity at 8am the weather was perfect.  20 keen walkers and runners once again enjoyed the scenic trek along the banks of Shoalhaven River choosing their selected distance.

Some great performances were recorded time wise. Young Cameron Harrison taking out the performance of the day by improving his time by over 3 minutes. With youth on their side also Marley Hewatt and Johanna Pichler had notable improvements, certainly considering they are newcomers to the longer distance.

At the other end of the age spectrum, it was pleasing to see Eva Moeller – Duhme  manage the  4.2k distance and finish strongly, despite a knee problem. While on the injured list for running, Kev Davis and Erich Moeller – Duhme are not defeated and together walked the full course. A word of encouragement to all walkers, it doesn’t matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everyone on a couch !

Jon  Schol  and Razz Morgan headed off  to Canberra after their breakfast at the café on Saturday. We will be interested to hear how Jon fared in the Sri Chinmoy Triple Triathlon he is competing in during Sunday. This very tough event is held in and around the Capital City, obviously the course taking advantage of the nearby mountains and the city lake.

A  BIG  “Congratulations” to Karen File who competed in her first marathon event on Sunday 17th. at Jervis Bay. All Karen’s training has paid off as she finished the distance in 5:12:06 and placed 5th in her age category of 45 – 49yrs.  A great effort Karen !

This weeks coming activities :  Fun Friday at Willandra 6pm  ~  22nd November. Saturday Sunrise Run or Walk  8am –   western side of the Nowra bridge  (near the café)  ~  23rd November.

First Timers always welcome. Distances from 2k to just over 4k.

Remember, November, quote for the month:   “Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t .”

Week Two – Summer Activities

Unfortunately weather conditions during October were not really encouraging  for afternoon Summer Activities.

With the onset of  the Summer months we are hoping the gale force winds will start to abate.

Friday 1st November the Fun Friday Obstacle Circuit participants were entertained by a very friendly Halloween Witch who managed to do four circuits of the obstacle course, despite her long black cloak and very long finger nails.

Not to be outdone by Crissy the Witch, sisters Layla and Cailin Burbage managed to  be the top scorers and completed eight circuits. This activity is not a competition, participants compete against themselves.

The aim is to have fun while running or walking , jumping, crawling, hopping, balancing and throwing objects while making their way around the obstacle circuit at their own pace.

For interest we count how many circuits each participant can manage during the afternoon. Which possibly will encourage them to steadily increase their number.

Friday 16th November at Willandra is our next Fun Friday  starting at 6pm. Any one interested please feel free to join us. For folk not so keen on obstacles, you are welcome to have a walk or run around the hills of Willandra.

Our Saturday Sunset Run at Shoalhaven Heads on 2nd November at 5pm saw six very brave competitors battle the very strong north easterly wind. Jon Schol managed to reduce his previous 4k time, while Cristine Suffolk and Paul Jennings had their first run on this nice flat course and are sure to improve.

Saturday 9th. November was our first Sunrise (8am) activity held on the Nowra side along the banks of Shoalhaven River.

It was encouraging to have eighteen participants walking or running over another attractive course, thanks to Paul Jennings for his ideas and planning.

Reuben Pichler set the pace from the beginning and finished first in the 4.2k event. Well done to all  nine runners, especially young Johanna Pichler who bravely completed the distance.

The 2k run saw young Matilda Hewatt and her dad Tim take out first and second place, while the 3.4k walk was enjoyed by Hati Onsel and three daughters, Marley Hewatt and mother Karen and despite not able to run, it was pleasing to see Kevyn Davis join the walk.

This same venue and 8am start will be used again on Saturday 16th November. Please join us on the western side of the bridge  near the café  if you would like an early morning run or walk.  Also feel free to join us at the café  after for breaky, morning tea or just a chat !

Quote for November:

STRENGTH DOESN’T COME FROM WHAT YOU CAN DO.  IT COMES FROM OVERCOMING THE THINGS YOU ONCE THOUGHT YOU COULDN’T.

Week One – Summer Activities

Week one of Victory Summer activities commenced on Friday afternoon with the fortnightly 6pm. Fun Friday at Willandra.  Kids, teenagers and mums enjoyed the challenge of the obstacle course covering approximately 1200mts. Considering this was a ‘trial run’ the enjoyment of the participants was evident.

Second activity was the 5pm. Saturday Sunset Run at Shoalhaven Heads.  The strong westerly winds didn’t daunt the enthusiasm of the fifteen participants who ’kick started’ this activity, with a choice of walking or running on a very pleasant out & back flat course choosing 1k, 2k or 4k.

This course will be the venue for the next two Sunset Runs at 5pm.
Saturday 26th October & Saturday 2nd November.

Fortnightly Fun Friday activity will be held at Willandra on 1st November at 6pm.

Families or individuals interested in either of these activities, please feel very welcome to come and try. Just turn up at the venue prior to the indicated start time, or email for further information:  info@victoryrunners.com.au. Shoalhaven Heads venue:  Start / finish next to Jerry Bailey Oval in Staples Street, north of the Surf Club entrance. Plenty of offroad parking available.

Week Thirteen – 16th December

Special word of thanks to members who were able to participate, despite the heat, in Victory’s final activity for 2018 and also for the support, contribution, friendship and encouragement received from members over the past nine months since Victory Runners became a reality.
With a total of 22 weeks during the winter and 13 during the summer, making an over all total of 35 activity weeks for 2018, is certainly a figure greater than first envisaged.
In a true Australian style outfit for the warmer climate Santa also joined us for a run and some enjoyable morning tea. Thank you Santa!
As we now have a break over the hottest part of summer, I take the opportunity to wish all members a very enjoyable festive season and may 2019 bring you peace & contentment.

Week Twelve – 9th December

Due to a number of families involved in various Christmas gatherings and celebrations, plus the very warm weather, Week 12 activities only had four contestants !
However, this didn’t deter the enthusiasm of Crissy, Eric, & Eva who scored good points for the 3k, covering 2 laps of the 1500mts in good time.
It was also great to have Leonie back with us again after a long break.
Leonie is an amazing example of determination to stay positive as she copes with Parkinsons.
Through medical advice she is keen to get back into a steady walking regime again, which she achieved during the winter months.
Victory Runnere are very proud of two associate members who competed at the All Schools Australian Track & Field Championships held in Cairns last weekend.
We wish to congratulate Jaylah Hancock – Cameron and Karlee Symonds, both girls achieved the honour of being crowned National Champions. Jaylah convincingly won the U18 1500m and Karlee won the U18 Para 100m & 200m achieving a PB in both events, despite pouring rain during the 200m!
Sunday morning 16th December will be our final activity for 2018. We have planned to start at 9.am instead of 10.am to avoid the heat. Some fun events will follow the 1 & 2k. To conclude and celebrate
the end of the year we plan to enjoy a Happy Christmas morning tea together. All welcome.
