Week 21 – 17th August

Cold westerly winds did not deter 34 keen competitors as they set out to complete their chosen distances. Possibly just as keen, it was a pleasure to watch 5 much loved attractive dogs on leash with their owners ready also to enjoy the exercise.

Two young lads set the scene for a great afternoon of excellent running and walking and close finishes. Francis Peabody took line honours completing the 1k in a PB time of 4.24. Henry Tait also had a great finish for a PB and set a new 1k time for 10yrs Best on Record. Very consistent youngster Hudson Bryant finished very well also, making it three in a row for the boys.

With not a lot of time separating the other six 1k competitors, plus the very speedy 2k youngsters finishing, timekeeper and place ticket handler were kept busy.

Two of our three Australian Cross Country representatives, U12 Annie Dziubinski who is competing for the All Schools XC on Wednesday in Victoria and Hobart the following weekend for Athletics Australia ran an excellent 2k in 7.55. Cleo McArthur U11 heading to Hobart also ran a very good 2k in 8.22. We wish Owen Harlor U11 along with Anie and Cleo all the very best and trust they will enjoy the competition and experience.

Well done also to Ashleigh Astin-Briggs who ran a very good 2k time of 10.09. Unfortunately, at the moment my computer is being updated so I don’t have the opportunity to check out previous times, but I think this could also be a PB for Ashleigh.

Ashleigh’s brother Joshua was first home in the 3k, Crissy Suffolk in the 4k. Great to see seven walkers taking the opportunity for a walk and a talk.

President Paul Jennings was wished a Happy Holiday as he and wife Tracey set off for six weeks overseas. As Paul won’t be home until early October, he has already indicated he is willing to stand for President at the AGM to be conducted in September.

Present plans are to conclude our Saturday afternoon activity on either Saturday 14th or 21st September. We will have a short AGM followed by some awards and maybe a BBQ. As members, if you have any preference for the date, please let us know.

Thanks to all for a very enjoyable Week 21. Hoping to see you again at Week 22 on Saturday 24th August. Members, visitors (and dogs on leash) always welcome. Start time 3.00pm.

Quote for the Month:
We delight in the beauty of the Butterfly, but do we consider the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty?
