Week 16 – 13th July

A cool fine Winter afternoon greeted keen runners and walkers to Willandra for  Week 16 activity

A very BIG thanks  was offered to  seven  of our young members who had already  competed earlier at Dapto in the  ANSW & LA’s Short Course Cross Country Championships.

All seven once again enjoyed the experience of competing and clocked up some very good times over the shorter distance . Once again our three 10yr old girls  Cleo Mcarthur, Caitlin Burbage and Ashleigh Astin-Briggs  performed very well and won a Gold Medal  each for 1st in the U11  1.5k Team event . Well done girls, another great effort just  3 weeks after winning Silver.

7yr old Jai Burbage completed the 800m in 3:25, 9yr old Thomas Dziubinski  completed his 1k in 3:56.   11yr old Sister Annie flew around the 1.5k in 5.26m.   12yr old Joshua  Astin-Briggs  completed his 2k event in ran his 2k 9.57.

Though not present  at Willandra, two other members  who attended  the Championships  were  Cristine Suffolk  and 10yr old Owen Harlor. Owen  ran well in a very large  field  completing his 1.5k in  5:38m

Last, but definitely not  least.  All Victory Members were very excited for Cristine Suffolk when she  won the Bronze Medal  in her age  category  4k event at these  Championships.  As we all were aware, this medal was her 500th Medal  presented to her since her very first one when she was 17ys old. Crissy  was in a Nowra Club Relay  Team  and won Gold with Glenda Abbot , Lisa Whitby and Pat Maher.

It is often said,  a change is as good as a holiday. Just before starting our activity, Paul Jennings surprised all  by announcing the activity for week 16, all distances from 1k to 4k had to be run or walked  in reverse. Considering the cheers, it sounded  like most enjoyed the challenge.

Looking forward to Week 17,  Saturday July 20th.  same time,  same place, maybe something different.  You will have to come and see!! All welcome.

Quote for the Month of July (Also a little different):
My Doctor told me that jogging could add years to my life.
I think he was right, I feel 10 years older already.
