Cool and cloudy weather conditions certainly was a pleasant change to Week 1. The 4pm start instead of 3pm due to possible hot conditions was also appreciated. The 1k distance featured a good range of age groups who will be very capable of increasing their distance as time goes by. Taking line honors in the 2k was 9 year old Piper Browne with Eddie Parnell a close 2 nd . Numbers in the younger age category were depleted due to five under 13yr olds all competing at the combined Open & Youth Track & Field Championships in Sydney during the weekend. In the Open competition in these Championships we are very proud to report our only competitor for Victory Runners, Lauren Johnson from Ulladulla was very successful in the 100m and 200m events. On Saturday Lauren managed to qualify for the Semi Final in the 100m placing 14 th . fastest of the three semi finals with a great time of 12:13. On Sunday she contested the Open 200m and was very successful to qualify for the B Final where she continued her success with a 2 nd . place and an excellent time of 25:10. Congratulations Lauren. Victory Runners is extremely proud of the five youngsters , namely sisters Layla and Cailin Burbage, Elijah Mercer, Owen Harlor and Thomas Dziubinski who competed in a number of events during the two days at this inaugural combined event. We thank you all for your representation and hope the experience gained was enjoyable. Many thanks too to the four families who supported and encouraged them. However a very big Congratulations to Layla Burbage who is now an Athletics NSW State Champion. In the second event on Sunday morning Layla contested the 11yrs 80m Hurdles event, hurdling beautifully she won the event in a fantastic time of 13:25. A very exciting result, Well Done! Looking forward to Week 3 at the new time of 4pm for March. New and trialing folk very welcome.
