Almost perfect winter weather was experienced for the State Cross Country Championships, hosted by Willandra & Victory Runners on Saturday 17th June. This was the 31st time Willandra has been the venue for this event, again made possible only by the assistance of many volunteers.
If you are among the 30 plus Victory members and Willandra friends, who were required in a variety of locations, parking, course officials, drink stations, medics on standby, on the course and at the finish, cake stall operators etc. please accept the Gibb families much appreciated thanks for your valuable contributions to another successful event in June 2023.
Many thanks for the attractive array of home cooked goodies for the Cake Stall. This was again a very successful fund-raising effort and appreciated by our visitors.
Naturally a Cross Country event needs competitors and spectators and according to Athletics NSW entries received this year were a record.
Despite Victory Runners not having a large number of competitors, as the majority were involved in volunteering, those who did enter and compete in the various categories certainly gave 100% effort from our youngest through to our oldest.
Our U/12 girls in the very first event was awarded a Gold Medal each for being the only Club with four or more competitors in the combined Under 12 / U10 event!!
For the first time this year Under 10 Girls & Boys 2k was conducted and though not a Championship event, Medals were awarded. New Victory member Cleo McArthur received the Gold Medal while Eddie Parnell received the Silver Medal. Our only other individual Medal was won by our top Masters athlete Cristine Suffolk who received the Bronze Medal in her age category 50 – 54 yrs 6k distance. Cristine’s time was 3rd fastest from 16 other women over this distance. A great effort Crissy.
