Week 8 – 13th May

Quite a heavy shower of rain did not appear to hinder 56 competitors as they started their afternoon.

running and walking activity. We were pleased to welcome a number of young visitors taking the opportunity to practise over the course, prior to the various school district and regional carnivals being conducted at Willandra.

First across the finish line were two young lads who share the 1k distance, Improvers of the Week. Well done Leo Corsaro and Andrew Tallon you are both doing very well.

2k Distance was won in a very good time by Annie Dziubinski. This was only Annie’s first run for six weeks, due to enjoying a holiday with her parents and young brother Thomas in Africa. Well done Annie. 2k Distance Improver of the Week is awarded to Cailin Burbage and setting herself a new PB.

2k Walkers all finished well despite the rain shower. Congratulations to Kayleen Lawrence for completing the 4k lap in a good time.

The 3k distance was very competitive with first 4 competitors being visiting athletes. Lucy Hoskins finished first in an excellent time of 11. 04 which is the fastest time for a 3k this season. 11 year old Jayden Clarke finished in a good time in his first run to score top points. 12 year old Noah Hanel was not far behind to be the 3k Distance Improver of the Week. Well done to Amelia Percival who also improved well from her first run last week.

4k distance was a little light on for competitors, however very consistent competitor Crissy Suffolk enjoyed the opportunity of chasing a visiting athlete who was first home over the 4k.

Improvers of the Week for this distance is shared by two runners. John Tallon ran really well and reduced his Best time on Record for age set last week by almost 2 minutes and Laura Burbage has steadily reduced her 4k times by a minute each week. Well done John and Laura.

Two visiting Masters 8k competitors, Dean Bryce and Peter Khourey were pleased for the opportunity to compete over the distance they will run at Athletics NSW  State Cross Country at Willandra on Saturday  17th June.

Week 9 next Saturday 20th May will be Open Day for any athlete wishing to train over their distance at Willandra. All competitors running or walking any distance from 1k up to 10k will start together at 3.00pm.

All visitors are requested to arrive around 2.30pm in time to add their names and distance to recording sheets which will speed up the process for recording and timing.

Quote for the Month of May:
Running is not about being better than someone else. It’s about being better than you used to be.
