Week 2 Report – Easter Saturday – 3rd April

Last day of daylight saving  certainly wasn’t a nice mild autumn day. The heat in the sun ,plus the high humidity didn’t favour cross county running or walking.

Unfortunately the Easter Bunny was concerned the secret hiding place was a little too hot for the chocolate eggs, so left them for collection at the recording table !   Left over eggs will be available next Saturday.

Despite the heat, the following  competitors are to be congratulated for improving their previous time over the same distance. First home in the 1k ,  Phoebe Armstrong claimed the Best on Record time for 2021 season for 6 years & under with a good time of  5:58.   4 year old Jai Burbage managed to improve his time by 40 seconds!

Four 2k competitors also managed a good improvement. 10 year old Hendrix Blinksell ran very well to stop the clock at 9:50 with young Madeline Oke just 1 second behind in a very close finish. Not to be outdone by her daughter, Kylie also improved her time. Fourth on the list of  worthy  improvers to note was Ava Jeffrey accompanied  by her very attractive four legged friend ‘Bear’.

3k Distance was very light on this week, however second across the finish to visitor James Gibb, Olivia Oke’s  50 seconds improvement in the heatwave conditions was well deserved.

4k distance only had ten contenders but all finished  with Crissy Suffolk and Anthony Russell also being listed as improvers. Jon Schol was first to finish in a very good time, considering he had run the Huskisson Park run earlier and clocked  a PB and first in his age category against almost 300 competitors.

Also noted in the Park Run at Huskisson for Easter Saturday were the Hill Family. 11 year old Evie was second female to finish and naturally was first in her age category.

Erich and Eva Moeller-Duhme will be missing from local activities for a few weeks as they are travelling to tour South Australia. However, on their way next Saturday, Erich is competing in the Canberra Half Marathon. We wish him all the best. Due to their love and commitment of running they also plan to compete in Park Runs in the various towns visited.

Another member of our Victory family, sprinter Lauren Johnson competed in the 100m on Easter Saturday at the High Velocity meet at The Ridge Athletics Track  in Sydney, conducted by Illawong Athletics Club.

Lauren ran a good time of 12:15 which placed her 16th out of the 45 women competing. Well done Lauren.

New families or individuals interested in running , jogging  or walking cross country are very welcome to join us at Willandra every Saturday afternoon around 2:30pm for a start at 3:00pm.

Week 3  Saturday 10th April we will be using some handicap starts. So check the Notice Board for your name and start time. This is done for faster runners to be held back a little in order to chase slower participants. It adds a bit of fun. You could be chasing someone or being chased !!   Note: This method is not used for the 1k Distance.

Quote of the Month for April

“Do What You Can With All You Have, Wherever You Are.” – Theodore Roosevelt

One of the most famous quotes about life by Teddy Roosevelt, who served as President of the United States from 1901 to 1909. A true optimist, he believed in the value of always giving it your all, no matter what you have or where you are.
