Preliminary Week 1 Report – 27th March

With the excessive rainfall during the middle of March, Victory Runners had to admit defeat and cancel running and walking activities for Saturday 20th. March.

However, due to the rain giving up and some lovely sunshine and westerly winds the course was able to be open on Saturday 27th. for Preliminary Week 1 of activities.

Despite quite a heavy track a number of runners and walkers who attended the Open Day are to be praised for improving their times. Well done to the 37 youngsters and adults, from our youngest 2 year old to our 72 year old participants for taking advantage of the fine weather for some exercise and enjoyment over the various distances at Willandra.

During the last two weekends, Victory Runners have had three members competing at the State Little A’s Championships.  Unfortunately for Evie Hill, her age category events were held when the weather conditions in Sydney were at their very worst. Evie’s wishes to run PB’s in both her events, 800m & 1500m certainly were not possible. Well done Evie for accepting the challenge in record breaking weather conditions by completing both events.

Thankfully for our two slightly older representatives who competed this past weekend the weather had resumed normality. Congratulations are in order for Joel Harlor who is the Little A’s State Champion after winning Gold in his age category for the 3000m event on Saturday afternoon.  Earlier he competed in the 1500m event and was awarded the Bronze medal. Well done Joel.

15 years old Laylah Connelly representing St Georges Basin LA’s had a busy weekend competing in the three sprints.  We are also very proud of her results in a very competitive age group. First event on Saturday she just missed qualifying for the finals in the 100m heats. In the 400m placed 6th in the final.  Qualified for the final of the 200m event on Sunday and in an extremely close finish Laylah ran a PB of 25:99 placing equal 5th not far behind the winner who ran 25:10.     Well done Laylah.

We look forward to Easter Saturday’s activity of running and walking for fun and fitness and many keen participants reducing their times. Pretty sure the Easter Bunny will be making a quick visit and hiding some goodies for youngsters to find after their run.

Visitors to the area and any new and interested potential members very welcome to join us on Saturday 3rd. April. Warm up activities 2.30pm.  Start of events, all distances …. Walk or run,3.00pm.
