A very welcome shower of rain fell gently on competitors who competed at Willandra on Saturday for Week 12 of the point score.
Once again some great improvements were noted. Lexie Burinaga, fresh from not having to play Tag Footie was first home in the 2k and in the process improved her time by well over a minute. Joel Harlor continues to improve his time despite being the sole competitor in the 3k, while Brooklyn Henry managed to take a minute from his time by also running solo in the 6k. This certainly is a good sign for their next level of school events when they will be surrounded by a large number of competitors.
To even up the female improvers for the day Kirsten Pichler, starting on a minus handicap didn’t allow fast finishing Paul Jennings to overtake her. In taking line honours Kirsten knocked a minute from her previous 4k time. Paul also put in a good effort for second place, having just arrived back in Australia after a family holiday over seas. Back marker, young Cameron Harrison made up good time for third place by overtaking Razz Morgan in a very close finish for the 6 points.
Despite the shower of rain and overall low numbers, much appreciation is extended to Bill Seary for assisting on the course and to all competitors for displaying a 100% effort making an afternoon of witnessing the events very rewarding and enjoyable.
Just under two weeks now till visiting clubs from Sydney and various locations of the State and ACT will descend on Willandra for the Waratah Run Series XC Challenge. Please take the opportunity to be involved either as a Fun Run competitor, a RunNSW competitor in your age category event, or simply to observe and enjoy some of the States finest cross country runners in action from under 12 year olds right through to 80years and over!!
The photo’s displayed above show three competitors from three different clubs who will be competing. Our local lad Joel Harlor with Jayla Handcock – Cameron, a Silver Medallist from the Youth Olympics in Argentina last October.
