Runners and walkers once again enjoyed the ideal weather conditions for competing in Week 11 at Willandra.
Some very impressive improvements were noted. Young Elizabeth Hastedt who was troubled by the thick smoke last week proved to be the ‘top improver’ of this week by reducing her 3k time by 3 minutes! Next on the list was Kelly Anne Hinchcliffe, 1 minute and birthday girl Razz Morgan 50 seconds. These two young ladies were joined by two more in the 4k, namely Mel Day and Di Court who also improved their times by over 20 seconds. Backmarker Cameron Harrison in Section 2 didn’t manage to catch all the women, nevertheless also improved by 18 seconds.
Very keen competitors, brother and sister Ashley and Ayden Spicer both performed extremely well to lower their 2k times. Both took out line honours in their sections. Ashley improved by 53 seconds and Ayden by 30 seconds.
We were pleased to welcome a visitor in the 3k walk. Aysen Bekir was visiting her relatives, the Onsel family and being a very active walker in the UK took the opportunity while in the Shoalhaven to walk and talk with other members choosing the walk.
Numbers were down in the 3k run this week, due to a number of regular competitors having a break after competing in various school T & F carnivals on Friday. We were also pleased to welcome a young Australian track champion, Ivy Boothroyd, who won the Under 14 Australian 1500mts earlier this year. Ivy is a member of Sutherland AC and while visiting grandparents locally she enjoyed the opportunity of an easy run over the 3k prior to competing in the Athletics NSW State XC event at Willandra on 22nd June.
While on the subject of the Cross County Challenge on Saturday 22nd. Week 11 distance of the 6k event featured four members who are planning on competing in the 6k combined age categories at the Championships. Two at one and of the age scale, Pam Mason and Kev Davis will fly the colours for Victory in the 60years & over categories while Liam Hinchcliffe and Brooklyn Henry at the younger end of the scale, will be competing in the under 18’s.
Our selected Quote of the Month for June is by Ronnie Lott – Famous American footballer. (Born 1995)
“If you can believe it, the mind can achieve it.” These are indeed powerful words and in reading the authors achievements, I am sure he experienced personally the power of believing. Victory Runners would like to wish our members competing in the Combined Regional Schools XC on Friday the chance to do their very best and achieve what they believe they can.
Saturday 8th. June will be Week 12 Point Score – New and interested families and individuals certainly welcome. Arrival at Willandra around 2.30 pm for a 3.00pm start is ideal.
