Week Three – 6th April

Quite warm and humid conditions greeted almost fifty Victory members as they lined up for the start of point score competition week 3.

Young Charlie Henry and Riley Prince took out the honours of first and second place in the sealed handicap of the 1k Course. Both improved their 1k times from a previous run when they chose to walk hand in hand. The photo tells the story!

Not to be outdone by the boys two young girls, Thelma Kelley and Layla Burbage ran equal times (6:07) finishing together  to  claim  honours for the fastest 1k time of the day.

The 2k Course was very competitive with young Dylan Hinchcliffe sprinting to the finish in an excellent time 8:16. Naturally he was first across the line and the fastest  boy. Visitor Alexander Finnegan training for his regional school cross country to be held at Willandra in May placed second. Second and third in the Pointscore was Steph. Kelley and Selin Onsel. Both finished very strongly. Fastest time honours went again to Evie Hill.

2k Walk had one lone walker, Hati Onsel. However Hati managed to improve her best time by exactly one minute. Well done!

This week the 3k Course was very depleted in numbers with only six competitors. Hailey D’Ombrain as back marker ran a very good time of 12:35 to be awarded the 10 points for first place and Cameron Harrison was second and sister Courtney placed third. Hailey and Cameron also gained fastest 3k time status.

4k Course certainly displayed some great competition with the handicap start. Razz Morgan on a minus handicap just managed to finish first place in a time of 26:31, slightly in front of backmarker Liam Hinchcliffe  who flew around the 4k in  13:41 also the fastest time.  Masters champion Cristine Suffolk had a good run to take out third place and be the fastest female.

6k and 8k course very light on but performance from the two contestants nevertheless was very commendable. Evergreen Eva Moeller – Duhme manages to improve and enjoy the course every time she runs. Josh Henry chose the 8k and in his first attempt over this distance at Willandra finished in 39:33. Would be nice if some more interested runners would be willing to take up the challenge of these two distances.

As daylight saving is now ended we would like to start the various courses for the Go markers no later than 3.00pm. Therefore arrival time at Willandra will now be 2.30pm.

This should give all competitors time to check out handicaps etc. and start the minus runners well before 3.00pm.

NOTE:  Members wishing to be handicapped in a different distance from what they have been running is fine, however, please let us know via the Victory email no later than Friday evening

Any one interested in ‘having a go’ at cross country walking or running at the same venue each week with other like minded people of all ages and abilities are very welcome. No cost for two weeks trialling.
