Victory Runners commenced their Autumn & Winter running and walking activity for the 2019 season on Saturday afternoon 2nd March at Willandra cross country venue.
Despite the very warm conditions twenty eight competitors took the opportunity to trial the course. With a good mix of current and new members, the heat from the sun didn’t deter the enthusiasm, as all lined up for the mass start of the various distances on offer.
The all age factor took on a new meaning when new mum Zahra Wells – Smith chose to walk the 1k course with six weeks old baby son, Charlie. Zahra & Charlie were accompanied by new member on the other end of the age scale, Frank Stevens.
We are pleased to welcome Frank & his wife Lorraine, who have recently located to the Shoalhaven from Canberra. Lorraine enjoyed the 4k course along with Cristine Suffolk and Paul Jennings who have many years of running the Willandra course.
New family member David Hill chose the 6k and wife Carla the 2k along with their two young daughters who certainly displayed some speed. Nine year old Evelyn was first girl to finish the 2k with seven year old sister Victoria, not too far behind.
Teenager Jai Holland took the opportunity for some additional training being first to finish the 2
k in just under eight minutes while father David was content with middle of the pack. Many thanks to daughter Baylee who assisted on the course.
We are also pleased to welcome the Henry family with five year old Charlie and mother Pam easily managing the 1k while son Foster chose the 2k.
It was great to see the Spicer family returning after competing in the summer activities. Speedy seven year old Ashley took out line honours by winning the 1k distance. Nine year old brother Ayden was 3rd finisher in the 2k while mother Natasha finished 5th.
Also appreciated were the few who chose the 2k walk and enjoyed the opportunity for a talk !
Victory Runners invites anyone interested in running or walking any distance from 1k through to 10k on open farmland during the autumn & winter months.
Please feel free to come along to Willandra, 101 Browns Mtn. Rd. Tapitallee any Saturday afternoon around 3pm. No charge for trialling the course. Email: info@victoryrunners.com.au
