Week Nine– 18th November

Ideal weather was much appreciated for Victory Runners & Walkers Week 9 activities. To add to the lovely weather we were thrilled to welcome some very special guests from the South Coast. This was organised to congratulate a very talented young athlete, Jaylah Hancock – Cameron from Broulee. Jaylah was one of 13 other young athletes to represent Australia at the World Youth Olympics held in Argentina during October.

Jaylah competed in the 1500m and 4k cross country events and was awarded the Silver Medal. A very outstanding performance, to be crowned the second best athlete under 18yrs in the world, for the two events. Jaylah was accompanied by three very important women in her life, her amazing coach, Andae, and her proud and supportive mother & grandmother, Leanne and Julie.

All present appreciated the opportunity to have Jaylah sign her photograph and see her Silver Medal and the Youth Olympic mascot which all medalists received. While on the subject of medals, we also enjoyed the opportunity to congratulate and view Cristine Suffolk’s latest medal collection. Cristine returned from the Gold Coast Masters Games with a grand total of 4 Gold & 3 Silver Medals. Another great result from Cristine who is a perfect example of giving 100% effort in her events. After Week 9 activities of running and walking the various cross country distances and fun events, members and visitors enjoyed a luncheon together to conclude a very enjoyable Sunday morning.
