Walking & running numbers for Week 12 were rather depleted due a number of families taking the opportunity to travel away for the Queens Birthday holiday weekend. However the cool morning and threatening rain after a few days of light showers on the course didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of participants.
Lexie Burinaga, choosing the 1k this week was first across the finish with best friend Eliz Onsel not far behind in 2nd.
The ‘Hidden Time’ award (featuring the number 12) this week was won by our youngest member who decided to add a few hundred meters extra to her usual 1k distance, clocked 12:53 for her 1.5k run Well done Zali.
On the other end of the age scale, setting a wonderful example of consistency to our very young members, Eva Moeller – Duhme’s determination in running the 6k distance is a wonderful example and very encouraging, not just to our younger generation but to us all. Thank you Eva.
Cristine Suffolk used the morning for a training run over 8k in preparation for the Waratah Series Challenge at Willandra on June 23rd where she will be competing in the women’s 45 – 49yrs 10k category which she won in 2017. We know Crissy will be giving her best to achieve this title again.
12 year old Nowra Anglican School student Gabi Johnson is our ‘High Achiever’ of the week. After gaining selection from the Southern Anglican Schools cross country carnival at Willandra early May, Gabi represented the area in a combined state Anglican school carnival at Horsley Park last Thursday. She ran brilliantly over a very hilly course and was awarded 3rd place in the Girls 3k event. She now moves to the next level on Thursday 14th June to compete in the State Combined Independent Schools carnival at Eastern Creek. Go Gabi !
Despite Victory Runners not having a great number of male contenders at the moment we would like to pass on our best wishes for a great run on Friday 15th June to 17year old Kieren Harrison who will be competing at Eastern Creek in the State combined Catholic Schools cross country carnival. Kieren earned this selection after a great run at the South Coast Diocese secondary carnival at Willandra early May.
Quote of the week ……. An obstacle is often a stepping stone. – Prescott Bush
Looking back over past events, can you identify like me, what appeared at the time to be an obstacle placed on your path, but in the long run was indeed a stepping stone in the same direction on a slightly different path ?
