Week Eleven – 3rd June

First day of winter for Victory members was appreciated, especially as the threatening showers kept their distance for most of the morning.

Despite the course being packed down firmly from one thousand school students competing on Friday in the South Coast Regional school carnival, 30 Victory members on Sunday still managed to clock up some  good times in the various distances. As recorder I am keeping note on all walkers & runners!

We also acknowledge the great results of our four members who were competing on Friday. The D’Ombrain sisters from Ulladulla school both placed 3rd in their respective age categories. Hailey in 12yrs  & Maddison in 15yrs.These girls gained selection for the State All Schools carnival in July. Kangaroo Valley student, Alyssa Sim placed 14th out of 84 competitors in the 10yrs 2k and immediately following her event travelled to attend the Shoalhaven Eistedford and just made it in time, after a quick change of outfits, to perform in the Piano solo competition. Alyssa obviously managed the change of pace well, gaining a very creditable Second place for her performance.   Mia Jobson from Illaroo Road School also ran well in her first Regional competition placing in the middle of the field in the 11years 3k.

On Saturday 23rd of June,  Willandra Venue will be hosting another activity. The WARATAH SERIES CHALLENGE and GREATER BANK FUN RUNS. Please click here for program & more info.

This event is run by Athletics NSW incorporating the State Cross Country Championships. Age categories for Championship events range from U/12 through to 75 years and over. Entries for Championship events are ‘online’ closing date Wednesday 20th June.

The popular all age Fun Run  of 1k, 2k or 4k. sponsored this year by Greater Bank will be taking entries on the day. A great opportunity for  Victory Community club members and non members to have a go running or walking with a host of other like minded children and adults. Mark this on your calendar as an opportunity  to participate and witness some great competition as Clubs from the city and various parts of NSW merge on our home ground to Take up the Challenge !!

Willandra Country Canteen will be operating all day plus Jack’s mobile coffee will be in action.

There will also be a Jumping castle,  plus pony rides for our horse loving kids. In addition, our president will have on display a collection of his favourite hobby  – his very attractive poultry friends.

However, despite a busy Saturday,  we will still have our usual Sunday morning activity on 24th June followed by morning tea. This will be an opportunity to give Eva & Erich an Aussie farewell just before they head overseas for a number of weeks.

Lucky place card draws this week featured  six with the excuse we are into the sixth month, and it was the first winter day. Winners were Zara Jobson, Hati Onsel and daughter Tanyel, 2k walker Melzon Burinaga, Melinda Day and newcomer Paul Weir  who both ran 4k. Hidden time had to feature the date & month ie. 3 6. Eva Moeller – Duhme by improving her 6k time and having won previously, clocked 42:36.   Stewart Sim also stopped the clock for his 4k on 21:36 Well done Eva & Stewart.

In closing will leave you with quote for Week Eleven to think about:

Everyone wants Happiness. No one wants pain, but you can’t have a Rainbow, without a little rain.
