Week Ten – 27th May

Great  autumn weather was again enjoyed by Victory members for Week Ten activity of running and walking on Sunday morning.

Willandra course was very popular this week and especially on Sunday.   Many families took the opportunity to journey from other areas on the south coast for their children to have some cross country training before the combined South Coast primary & secondary schools cross country carnival to be conducted at Willandra on Friday 1st. June.

Well over a thousand students who have been selected through their various district and zone competitions will be competing.  We hope all will be able to run their very best and more importantly, take pride in representing their area and enjoy the competition and the experience.

Victory members enjoyed the first  Get-to-Gether  luncheon  on Sunday which doubled as a surprise early birthday celebration for president Kevyn Davis.

A 70th birthday celebration planned for Kev. in July was moved forward a couple of months for two good reasons.  Firstly the weather in July is not ideal for an outside picnic, especially at ‘windy Willandra’ and more importantly, Eva & Erich, two very good friends of Kev. would be overseas.

A special thank you to all who contributed to make this an enjoyable time together. Due to Kevyn’s very serious health problems back in December when he required the insertion of a heart pacemaker, we also give thanks for the opportunity to celebrate with him and for the miracle of medical science.

Our weekly quote was inspired when thinking about good friends and the importance of having friends we can relate to and be comfortable with. As a matter of fact the quote could apply to any relationship.

“ Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow; Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead; Walk beside me, and just be my friend.”    Albert Camus (1913-1960) French novelist, essayist and dramatist.)

Lucky place card draws this week were won by 3 young girls, namely Darcie Johnson, Lulu Wilson & Bella Rose. The  ‘hidden time’ was awarded to the competitor with identical minutes & seconds.   Gabi Johnson, received first home honours  and her 2k time was 10:10. Well done Gabi. !! Don’t forget to choose your treat next Sunday.

Looking forward to seeing you all for Week 11 Sunday 3rd. June at Willandra.  Hope to have some information to give you in relation to the WARATAH SERIES CHALLENGE ~  Athletics NSW State Cross Country Championships and 1k,2k, & 4k Fun Runs to be conducted at Willandra on Saturday 23rd. June .
